Basilic Grand Vert "Genovese"

This fragrant basil has a rich blend of aromatic essences.

This is the one used in Italian cuisine.

The plant

Rustic, very ramified. It can reach 45 cm in height.

The leaves are light green, broad and blistered.

Cultivation

Sowing: early, in late spring, in bucket, or in place.

Location: Full sun, warmth and shelter

Soil: light and rich. Basil grows well in pot.

Flowery basil

  • A couple of flowerpots of basil in your kitchen are enough to keep the flies at bay.
  • If an insect stings, rub the irritated area with a fresh leaf.
  • If many insects flee basil because of its smell, beaware that butterflies and bees are attracted to it.

Culinary use

To prepare delicious salad dressings avoid chopping the basil. Split the leaves into two or three pieces to preserve their flavor. The dried leaves are used in cooking and for making potpourris.

Medicinal use - Caution! Not during pregnancy.

Basil energizes the nervous system: Essential oil is frequently used in aromatherapy to combat depression. In massage, this same oil relaxes tired and contracted muscles. The infusion of freshly picked leaves helps digestion, especially when the disorders are nervous. A leaf can be chewed to calm a passing indigestion. Basil tea has a reputation for calming nausea. The flowers of basil taken in infusion, have a soothing action. WARNING... ! No medicinal use during pregnancy. This can cause irritation on some skins.
